Cursor and Gemini CLI
These use a Wahlu API key and run Wahlu on your computer. You need Node.js.
- In Wahlu, make an API key. Go to Workspace settings, then API keys, then Create key. Give it only the brands and permissions it needs.
- Add Wahlu to your agent's settings file. For Cursor, that's
~/.cursor/mcp.json. For Gemini CLI, it's~/.gemini/settings.json. - Paste your key where it says. For Gemini CLI, put the key in your shell as
WAHLU_API_KEYinstead.
The Cursor guide and Gemini CLI guide have the exact settings to copy.
Questions
- Why do Cursor and Gemini CLI need an API key?
- They can't sign in to the hosted Wahlu server the way Wahlu needs. So they run a small Wahlu server on your computer that uses an API key.
