Meta’s Facebook Stories guidance: keep the top 14% and bottom 20% free of text and logos. Meta doesn’t give a side margin for Facebook Stories, so this uses the 6% it gives for Instagram.

Meta’s Facebook Stories guidance is to keep the top 14% and the bottom 20% free of text and logos, so the profile name and reply bar don’t cover them. Meta gives no side margin for Facebook Stories, so the checker uses the 6% it recommends for Instagram. We haven’t measured Facebook Stories on a device yet.
Cover photos and profile pictures
Facebook recommends an 851 × 315 px cover photo. It says phones show a 2.4:1 crop, which trims roughly 6% from each side, and that the profile picture overlaps the cover by about 40 px. Facebook describes a different crop on computers, so treat this guide as a starting point and check both.
Profile pictures are cropped to a circle and shown at 176 px on computers and 196 px on phones. Facebook recommends uploading 320 × 320 px.

Use a 1.91:1 image, ideally 1200 × 630 px. Nothing is overlaid on it, so the checker shows a small comfort margin rather than a platform rule.
