What covers a TikTok video

We measured TikTok on an iPhone and mapped it onto a 1080 × 1920 px frame. The status bar and search bar cover roughly the top 13%. The profile photo, like, comment, save, share and sound buttons run down the right edge from about halfway. The name, date and a two-line caption cover the bottom 9%.

The safe zone follows those buttons: nearly the full width above the profile photo, then stepping in beside the buttons, and stopping just above the name and caption. TikTok’s own safe-zone files are downloads inside Ads Manager, and its help pages give no numbers, though they note that a longer caption means a smaller safe zone.

• On a 1080 × 1920 video, clear everywhere: 97 px to 862 px across and 300 px to 1,709 px down.
• Down to 893 px, above the profile photo, you can go right to 1,004 px across. Taller phones crop about 50 px off each side, so keep clear of the edges.

What only you see

On your own video, TikTok shows the avatars of people who liked it down the left edge, and a Promote and Privacy settings bar below the video. Viewers don’t see either, so the safe zone ignores them. Turn on the app layout to see the liker avatars outlined separately.

Example: burned-in captions

Subtitles are usually placed near the bottom, where TikTok puts its own caption. Keep the lowest line of your subtitles above 1,709 px on a 1080 × 1920 video and end each line before 862 px across, and they will stay clear of both the caption and the buttons. If you write long captions, leave extra room.
