Post to Discord

Add Wahlu's bot to a Discord server, choose a channel, see what you can post, the limits, and how to disconnect it.

Updated

You can connect a Discord server to a brand and post to one of its channels from Wahlu. Scheduling and queues work the same as for your other accounts.

Wahlu posts as its own bot. You add the bot to your server, then choose the channel it posts to.

Connect a Discord server

  1. Open your brand and click Accounts in the brand menu.
  2. Click + Connect next to Discord.
  3. A new tab opens on Discord. Sign in if it asks.
  4. Pick the server you want. Discord only lists servers where you have Manage Server.
  5. Click Continue, then Authorize.
  6. Back in Wahlu, under Choose a channel, click the channel the bot should post to.
  7. You see Connected with the channel and server name. Click Done.

Not sure which channel yet? Click Choose later. You can't post to the server until you choose one.

Only the workspace owner can connect or remove accounts.

Change the channel

  1. Open Accounts and click your Discord server.
  2. Click Change channel.
  3. Click the new channel.

The chip under your server shows the channel it posts to.

What the bot asks for

The bot asks for four permissions in your server:

  • View Channel, to see the channel.
  • Send Messages, to post.
  • Embed Links, so links show a preview.
  • Attach Files, to post photos and videos.

The channel list shows if the bot is missing one in a channel. A channel without Attach Files can take text only.

One server, one workspace

A Discord server can only be connected to one Wahlu workspace. Any brand in that workspace can use it. To move it, disconnect it in the old workspace first.

Post to Discord

  1. Click New post.
  2. Add your photos or videos. For words only, click Write a text post instead.
  3. Under Where should it go?, pick your Discord server.
  4. Write your message. The counter shows if it is too long for Discord.
  5. Pick Post now or Schedule, then click it.

For the full tour, see Create and schedule a post.

What you can post

PostRules
TextUp to 2,000 characters.
FilesUp to 10 photos and videos in one message.
PhotosJPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP.
VideoMP4, MOV or WebM.
SizeUp to 20 MB each, and 24 MB for all files together.

A message with files doesn't need words. A text message does.

Good to know:

  • Links show a preview in Discord.
  • Some emojis count as 2 characters.

Publish to following servers

Other servers can follow an announcement channel. If your channel is one, you can send your message to them too.

  1. Open Discord options in the post editor. You only see it for an announcement channel.
  2. Turn on Publish to following servers.

How many posts you can send

  • Your plan's limits apply, as for your other accounts.
  • Each server can get up to 50 messages from Wahlu in 24 hours.

Post to Discord from your AI agent

Your AI agent, the API and the CLI can post to Discord too. The same rules and limits apply. Your agent can attach images and videos and publish to following servers.

If you run the Wahlu CLI or MCP server on your own computer, update it first. You need CLI 0.9.0 or later, or MCP server 0.16.0 or later. Older versions show an error once a brand has a Discord account.

See Connect your AI agent.

No Insights for Discord

Discord doesn't share numbers for messages with bots. So Wahlu can't show numbers for your Discord posts in Insights.

If a post fails

  • Bot removed. Someone took Wahlu's bot out of the server. Open Accounts, click the server and click Reconnect.
  • Bot can't post here. Give the bot View Channel, Send Messages, Embed Links and Attach Files in that channel. Or choose another channel.
  • Channel gone. The channel was deleted. Click Change channel and pick another.
  • Files too big. Keep all files under 24 MB together.
  • Daily limit reached. Wait until tomorrow, then try again.

See Why did my post fail? for more.

Disconnect a server

  1. Open Accounts and click your Discord server.
  2. Click Disconnect, then confirm.

Wahlu forgets the server, and its bot leaves it. If another brand in your workspace still uses the server, the bot stays. You can also remove the bot in Discord, under Server Settings, then Integrations.

2,000 characters. Some emojis count as 2.
