Why did my post fail?
What each failed-post reason means, the most common causes on each network, and how to fix them.
Updated
When a post fails, Wahlu tells you why. You see it in History, on your Overview page and in a notification.
Find out why
- Open your brand and click History.
- Pick the Failed filter.
- Read the reason on the post. It says what to do, such as confirming your email in Bluesky. Then use the button next to it.
What the reason means
| History says | What to do |
|---|---|
| Reconnect the account | The link to the account stopped working. Reconnect it. |
| Rejected the media or post details | The photo, video or caption broke a rule. Fix it in the calendar, then schedule it again. |
| Review the connection permissions | Wahlu is missing a permission. Reconnect and allow everything it asks for. |
| Could not complete this publication. Try again later | The network had a short problem. Wahlu often tries again by itself. |
| Blocked because of a policy restriction | Facebook blocked the post. See Fix Facebook Page problems. |
| A problem on our side, and our team has been alerted | It's our fault, and we already know. Check the network to see if it went out. If it didn't, post it again. |
| Wahlu could not prepare this publication | Something went wrong on our side. Contact us. |
A post can also say Action required. That means Wahlu checked it before it went out and found a problem. For example, its photo was deleted, or it no longer meets the network's rules. Edit it in the calendar, then schedule it again.
Common reasons on each network
- Not a Business or Creator account. Switch your account type in the Instagram app. Then reconnect.
- Wrong photo shape. Photos must be between 4:5 (tall) and 1.91:1 (wide).
- Wrong file type. Use JPEG or PNG for photos, and MP4 or MOV for video. Instagram photos must be JPEG.
- Too many hashtags or tags. Use up to 30 hashtags and 20 @tags.
- Daily limit reached. Instagram limits how much you post in a day. Wait 24 hours.
- Seen as spam. Instagram may block a post with lots of emojis or hashtags. Make it simpler.
- Page access changed. Reconnect with full permissions to your Page.
- Log in to Facebook first. Facebook wants you to do a security check. Log in on facebook.com, then try again.
- Photo too big. Compress the photo, then check its size in the post editor before trying again.
- Same post twice. Facebook blocks a post that matches one you just made. Change the words.
TikTok
- Posting too fast. TikTok limits posts per day. Wait and try again later.
- Wrong video. Use 23 to 60 frames a second. The longest video you can post depends on the limit TikTok returns for your account.
- Privacy problem. See TikTok privacy and settings.
YouTube
- Daily upload limit. YouTube caps uploads each day. Wait until tomorrow.
- No channel. Make a YouTube channel first, then reconnect.
- Wrong file. Use an MP4, MOV or WebM video.
- Link expired. LinkedIn links end after a while. Reconnect your profile.
- Text too long. Keep posts under 3,000 characters.
X
- Text too long. Keep posts to 280 characters by X's count. A link counts as 23 and an emoji as 2.
- Same post twice. X blocks a post that repeats a recent one. Change the words.
- Not enough credits for a link. Your plan's posts with links are used up. See Post to X.
- Account locked or suspended. Sort it out on X, then try again.
Bluesky
- Text too long. Keep posts to 300 characters.
- Video refused. Bluesky needs a verified email to post video, and has a daily video limit. See Post to Bluesky.
- Account suspended or turned off. Sort it out on Bluesky, then try again.
Telegram
- Bot can't post. Someone removed @wahlu_bot, or took away its right to post. Add it back as an administrator with Post messages on. Then reconnect the chat.
- Group got a new address. Telegram turned your group into a supergroup. Reconnect the group.
- Text too long. Keep it to 4,096 characters, or 1,024 with a photo or video.
- Media refused. Photos must be up to 10 MB and videos up to 50 MB. See Post to Telegram.
Discord
- Bot removed. Someone took Wahlu's bot out of the server. Reconnect Discord to add it again.
- Missing permissions. Give the bot View Channel, Send Messages, Embed Links and Attach Files in the channel. Or choose another channel.
- Channel gone. The channel was deleted. Choose another channel in Accounts.
- Files too big. Keep all files under 24 MB together. See Post to Discord.
Tumblr
- Daily limit reached. Tumblr limits posts, photos and videos each day. Wait until tomorrow.
- Posted from a looping queue or Autopilot. Tumblr asks that you choose each post. Schedule it from the calendar instead.
- File refused. Use JPEG, PNG or GIF photos up to 10 MB, or an MP4 or MOV video up to 100 MB.
- Can't post to this blog. Check you can still post to it on Tumblr, then reconnect. See Post to Tumblr.
Check the size and length rules in Rules for each network.
Questions
- Will Wahlu try again by itself?
- Yes, when the problem is short-lived, like a busy network. History then shows Retrying automatically soon. For other problems, fix the cause and schedule the post again.
- Where do I see the full reason?
- The Publishing problems notification has the network's own reason. Your Overview page also lists recent failed posts under Needs attention.
